Metro Transit Coordinated Transit Information Software Procurement

Advising on a coordinated procurement for core rider-information and operations-supporting software systems across the Metro Transit information ecosystem.

Role
Technical advisor and procurement support lead
Clients
Metro Transit · Metropolitan Council

UrbanLabs supported Metro Transit on a coordinated software procurement effort centered on the agency’s transit information mission: helping riders access timely, accurate, customer-friendly information so they can ride with confidence and ease.

The project materials describe a broad ecosystem of interdependent systems, including prediction engines, alerts management, real-time data concentrators, trip planning, schedule data editing, and detour data. UrbanLabs contributed to scope and requirements work across these connected tools.

This project is important because it treats procurement as part of product and systems strategy. The choices agencies make about interoperability, flexibility, and user experience in procurement shape what riders and staff can do for years afterward.

Why it matters

Riders experience transit as one system, even when it is powered by many interdependent tools underneath. This work matters because it helps agencies procure software in a way that supports accurate information, open standards, and better coordination across the systems riders depend on.

We'd love to hear about it.
